On Deep Thinking

Many praise deep thinking 1 2 3, but few realize the harm that it can bring.

Being in deep thought is not something that can easily be turned on or off. It’s such a difficult task that people make a living convincing others they can master™ it 4.

The other day I was in such deep thought that I walked directly into a turnstile. Mind you, I was entering the subway. The kicker was that I forgot I needed to pay before entering. Reality hit me swiftly in my center of gravity. Thankfully it was just a waste-high turnstile 5, and not the kind that would’ve turned me into lunch meat6.

Deep thinking has its merits, but it’s not always safest to practice in public. Be safe, and remember, don’t think and stride.
